近所の公園にあったアジサイ、ひっそりとしたたたずまいがいい感じ、と思って調べたらこのアジサイは「ヤマアジサイ」というそうです。
次に、懐かしいと思って写真を撮ってみましたが、、、！
こちらは南アフリカ原産の「姫緋扇すいせん」、ただ今全世界で繁殖中らしいです。
その繁殖力の旺盛さに佐賀県では移入規制種の指定をしていて栽培が条例で禁止されているそうです。
他にも動植物魚類など多岐にわたっていて、何気に佐賀って凄いな、と思いました。
海音寺潮五郎が、江戸時代末期の佐賀藩主・鍋島直正を、当時の賢諸侯の一人と評していたことを思い出しました。
また、日本で初めて天然痘のワクチンをオランダから輸入し、当時は不治の病と言われていた天然痘根絶の先駆けとなったと紹介していました。
調べてみると、幕末の日本において最大の兵器工場は佐賀にあり、精煉方（せいれんかた）と呼ばれる理化学研究所を設置しています。
蘭学が盛んで、藩士が蘭書のみで、反射炉、火薬、製鉄、造船などの開発を進め、アームストロング砲など最新の西洋式大砲や鉄砲の自藩製造に成功しています。
さらに蒸気機関・蒸気船の基地として三重津海軍所を設置し、日本の近代化に大きく貢献した地域なのです。
ということで、この地域は2015年7月「明治日本の産業革命遺産 九州・山口と関連地域」として世界遺産に登録されました。
佐賀の独自性について読売新聞の「名言巡礼」には次のように書かれています。
